Leesburg, FL – The Santa Fe Saints didn't get the prettiest win on Friday afternoon in Leesburg against Lake Sumter, but it was a win nonetheless as SF defeated the Lakehawks 5-3, with four of the five runs coming via LSSC errors. The victory is the fourth in a row for Santa Fe, and the third in a row against the Lakehawks.
Saints started Austin Goss (4-1) kept the game close and the Lake Sumter defense gave the Saints what they needed, committing six errors that led to the five runs for the visitors.
The Saints trailed 1-0 after one but bounced back with three in the second, two coming via a Cole Parks RBI double.
Lake Sumter chipped away, scoring one in the third and another in the fourth to even the score at 3-3.
SF broke the tie in the seventh with a run on a misplayed grounder, scoring Cole Parks. They added an insurance run in the ninth on a RBI double by Matt Allen, and Call Graham did the rest in the bottom of the ninth, closing the door for his fifth save.
The win moves the NJCAA #10 Saints to 18-5 overall and 5-1 in the Mid-Florida Conference. The Lakehawks drop to 13-13 and 0-4 in MFC play.
The Saints will be back at it again on Saturday, March 14 when they host Mid-Florida Conference foe Daytona State College at 1:00 PM in the first game of a three game set.
