Seven Baseball Players Named to All MFC Team

Gainesville, FL – Seven members of the FCSAA State/NJCAA Region VIII Tournament bound Santa Fe Saints were recently honored for their play on the field, with five players making first team All Mid-Florida Conference and two named to the second team.

Shortstop Jared Shouppe, RHP Trent Johnson, LHP Tom Watson, C Matt Allen, and 3B Chandler Rodriguez were all named to the first team, and OF Cole Parks and 1B/DH Cliff Bryant made the second team.

Shouppe hit a team high .387 with three homeruns, 28 RBI, seven doubles, and 21 stolen bases to lead the Santa Fe offense, all while playing very steady defense at shortstop. 

Joining Shouppe on the first team from the left side of the infield is Chandler Rodriguez.  Rodriguez hit .359 with two homeruns, two doubles, and 21 RBI, hitting primarily in the two spot in the lineup.

Matt Allen, a stalwart behind the plate for Coach Johnny Wiggs, was also a key cog in the lineup, hitting cleanup on his way to a .370 average, a team high 34 RBI, and eight doubles. 

Trent Johnson made the most of his freshman season on the mound, winning an impressive nine games, while losing just one.  He struck out 68 batters in 73.2 innings pitched, and walked just eight.

Tom Watson was equally as impressive on the hill, going 7-1 with 73 strikeouts in 77.1 innings.  In two years at the junior college level he is 17-1 after going 10-0 for Chipola College last season.

Cole Parks made the second team after a solid freshman campaign that saw him hit .328 with 17 RBI and 13 steals.  Cliff Bryant improved more and more as the season progressed, and capped the regular season by also being named to the second team.  He hit .315 with two homeruns, six doubles, and 18 RBI.
