Saints Finish Sweep of Central Florida, 10-8

March 24, 2018

Ocala, FL – The FCSAA #4/NJCAA #7 Santa Fe offense put up double digit runs for the third straight game against the College of Central Florida Saturday in Ocala, holding off a late charge by the Patriots to win 10-8.  The win completes a three game sweep for SF and moves them to 26-6 overall and 7-2 in the Mid-Florida Conference.

Over the three game series, the Saints tallied 33 runs and 55 hits, including 17 on Saturday and 24 on Friday.

Devin Hemenway earned the win on the mound with 6.1 innings of work, striking out eight in the process.  Michael Paul picked up the save with 2.2 innings in relief.

Andrew Eyster paced the Santa Fe offense with four hits, with two doubles, and Bo Seccombe had three hits and a stolen base.  Mikey Navarrete, Garrett Mathes, and Haydn Cano had two hits each.

Santa Fe lead 7-2 through five innings but the Patriots slowly fought back and by the end of the seventh had pulled within two runs at 7-5.

SF added an insurance run in the eighth and two more in the ninth that would prove to be vitally important.

Central Florida's Christian Smallwood blasted a three run homer with no outs in the bottom of the ninth to make it a game, but Paul worked his way out of the inning, getting a pop out to second base to end the game.

The Saints will start a three game series with Seminole State College on Monday, March 26 in Gainesville at 3:00 p.m.  The game will be broadcast on the Saints Sports Network.
