Anthony Arguelles (1-0) pitched five shutout innings to earn the win and Emanuel Fernandez got out of a jam in the ninth to preserve the Saints 2-1 win over Pasco-Hernando State College in New Port Richey Friday afternoon.
Devin Hemenway pitched three strong innings allowing just one run in middle relief to keep the Bobcats in check.
The Saints (1-0) scored an unearned run in the second inning and Luis Rodriguez scored on an RBI single by Cale Stafford in the sixth to provide the edge.
"It's great to win on opening day," said SF head coach Johnny Wiggs. "We pitched and played defense pretty well. We will need to have a little better approach at the plate and take a few more quality swings. But it's the first game and we look forward to doing it again tomorrow."
The Saints will host the Bobcats Saturday at 12 noon at SF College.
