Gainesville, FL – Evelyn Arguelles led the Saints to a 1-0 game one victory over St. Petersburg College on Thursday evening in Clearwater, but defensive breakdowns in game two cost Santa Fe (8-9) a sweep as they fell 5-1 to the Titans in the second half of a double dip.
Maddy Peres started in the circle for SF in game one and tossed a two hitter, holding SPC at bay all seven innings. The Saints weren't able to get much going offensively either, but Arguelles changed that in the top of the seventh when she went deep for the second time this season to break a scoreless tie. Peres shut it down in the bottom of the seventh to earn her fourth win of the year.
Arguelles was 2-for-3 in the game with the homerun and a RBI.
The Titans rebounded for a game two victory thanks to four crucial Santa Fe errors, allowing five unearned runs. The Saints only run came in the second on a RBI single by Torri Bethel.
Ortiz was the lone Santa Fe batter with multiple hits, finishing 2-for-3 with a run scored. Jessica Castiglione started in the circle and took the loss.
The Saints will be back at home on Saturday, February 28 against the State College of Florida at 1:00 PM in double header action. Fans can follow along with live stats here.
