Gainesville, FL – The first game of a double header on Thursday afternoon was all Seminole State College as the NJCAA #9 Raiders cruised past Santa Fe 10-0 in five innings, but the Saints bounced back in a big way, rallying twice in game two to win 7-6 on a walk off hit by Brashella Keys.
Santa Fe fell behind early in game one, and Seminole State hit two homeruns to pull away for the big win, setting up a must win for SF in game two.
The second half of the double header started off much like the first, with Seminole jumping out to a 4-0 lead. Saints catcher Evelyn Arguelles trimmed the lead with a big three run homer in the bottom of the fourth, cutting it to a 4-3 advantage for the Raiders.
SF completed the rally in the fifth when Maddy Peres came up with a big two out, two RBI single, giving Santa Fe their first lead of the day, 5-4.
Seminole didn't go away and retook the lead in the top of the sixth after a costly error with two outs gave the Raiders new life and led to two runs on another error later in the inning.
In the bottom of the seventh, sophomore short stop Beri Scott came home with the tying run on a long sacrifice fly by Maddy Peres, and Brashella Keys walked off with the win when the blasted a double to the fence, giving the Saints the 7-6 win.
The victory helps keep the Saints in contention for a FCSAA State Tournament spot, moving them to 20-23 overall and 8-12 in the Mid-Florida Conference.
The Saints will host two more MFC games on Saturday, April 11 when Lake Sumter State College comes to Gainesville for a double header starting at 1:00 PM. Fans can watch live on www.ihigh.com/santafesaints
