The Santa Fe Saints took the second game of a doubleheader against Hillsborough CC 7-4 after dropping the opener 4-3. It was the first win for first-year Head Coach Lindsay Fico who said she was happy to get one in the win column.
"I'm happy for the girls", said Fico. "We have been playing hard in every game and we finally got one to go our way." The Saints (1-4) broke a 3-3 tie in game two when they pushed across four runs in the top of the fifth inning.
Adrianna Garip got the rally started with a one-out double and Emily Yakel reached when she was hit by pitch. Cameron Trehy followed with a two-run double to make it 5-3. Giulia Fiorentini, Karina Ortiz-Munoz and Dontaysha Gobourne followed with singles to make it a 7-3 score. Tihana Zupanic (1-1) earned the win while Gabrielle Mathre pitched the fifth and sixth innings and Gobourne pitched a scoreless seventh.
In the first game it was the Hawks (2-2) who used a big inning to get the win when they scored three times in the sixth to erase a 2-1 Saints lead to go ahead 4-2. The Saints scored one in the top of the seventh and left the potential tying run on second. Garip had four hits in the doubleheader for the Saints including her first home run of the year. Trehy also had four hits on the day while Gobourne and Ortiz-Munoz had two apiece.
The Saints will host South Florida State College for a doubleheader on Saturday with the first pitch of game one scheduled for 1 p.m.
