The Santa Fe Saints rallied for seven runs in the final inning to take game two of a doubleheader with St. Petersburg College 9-5 after dropping the opener 6-0.
The Saints scored five times in the top of the seventh before making an out. Ashlyn Rogers had a clutch two-run single to tie the score at 5-5 and Morgan Lebeda drove home the go ahead run with a single to keep the rally alive. Donnie Gobourne, Laila Dickey and Grace Guthrie added RBI's to give the Saints a comfortable lead.
"I'm proud of our fight and how we bounced back in the second game after a very slow start to the day", said SF head coach Lindsay Fico. "This team seems to thrive when their backs are against the wall."
Lebeda (1-0) pitched scoreless ball over the final three innings to earn her first win of the year.
"Morgan Lebeda came in and slowed down their offense," said Fico. "She worked hard in the circle and our defense settled in and made some great plays in the final two innings."
SPC (9-3) won game one 6-0 with Gabi Cirillo throwing a five-hit shutout. Gobourne (3-2) took the loss for the Saints.
"We played timid which resulted in costly mistakes at critical times in the game," said Fico. "We fell behind early and failed to make adjustments at the plate."
Dickey had four hits on the day for the Saints while Grace Prom, Guthrie and Rogers had two hits apiece.
SF (7-3) will travel to Tampa on Thursday to take on Hillsborough CC in a doubleheader.
