Winter Haven, FL – The Santa Fe Saints took to the road on Thursday evening and defeated a tough Polk State College team in straight sets, 25-20, 25-22, 25-19. The win moves FCSAA #6 SF to 5-1 on the season with their only loss coming at the hands of Indian River State last weekend.
Santa Fe once again got a strong game from sophomore Ruth Harrington as she led the way with 12 kills, and 12 digs. Kaylin Powell made the most of her attempts, killing seven out of a possible 12 attack attempts, and setter Farah Rajaee had 28 assists.
The Saints saved their best performance for the third set where they totaled 12 kills and just two errors.
The service defense of SF was some of the best Coach Nick Cheronis has seen in his 30 plus years of coaching. The Saints finished the match allowing no services aces by the Eagles.
"We had our best serving and passing match of the year," said Cheronis. "I don't believe I have coached a team that didn't give up an ace all match. The credit goes to our players for their consistency tonight."
The Saints will play their next match on the road against Webber International University in Babson Park on Monday, September 8 at 7:00 PM.
