SANTA FE FIGHTS BACK FOR FIVE SET VICTORY OVER WEBBER
Babson Park, FL – The Santa Fe Saints played their third five set match of the season on Monday night in Babson Park, defeating Webber International University after fighting back from a 2-1 set deficit (20-25, 25-20, 22-25, 25-17, 15-13). SF (6-1) also had to fight the odds in the fifth and decisive set as they overcame a 13-11 disadvantage to take the final four points and the match.
Kaylin Powell was the difference maker at the net for Santa Fe as she killed 15 with an attack percentage of .407, both season highs.
"This was a gutty win by our young team," said SF Coach Nick Cheronis. "Down 13-11 in the fifth set and to reel off four straight points doesn't happen very often. Individually, Kaylin Powell was huge for us the entire night."
Powell led the way, but the win was a team effort with four Santa Fe players recording double digit digs. Farah Rajaee had a team high 13, Ruth Harrington had 12, Sara Lounsbury 11, and Ann-Lorrayne Bzoch 10. Harrington recorded another double double, adding 16 kills. Rajaee set well all night and recorded 48 assists.
The Saints will take their 6-1 record into Panama City on Friday and Saturday when they compete in the Gulf Coast State College Tournament. On Friday, Sept. 12 SF will battle Andrew College and Southern Union State College, and on Saturday they will take on Snead State Community College and Gadsden State Community College.
