Gainesville, FL – The FCSAA #5 Santa Fe Saints made quick work of Trinity Baptist College on Tuesday afternoon, sweeping the Eagles in straight sets, 25-12, 25-12, 25-5. The win moves SF to 11-1 on the season and the Eagles fall to 5-6.
Nine different players recorded kills in the team effort with Kaylin Powell leading all players with eight. Ruth Harrington recorded six kills, Savannah Young had five, Amber Hendry six in just 10 attempts, and Haley Walker was a perfect 3-for-3 on kill attempts. Santa Fe hit .550 as a team and held Trinity Baptist to a .018 attack percentage.
The Saints started slowly in set one, but eventually got things on track and cruised to a 25-12 victory. Set two was much of the same as SF also took that one 25-12. In the third and final set Santa Fe opened up on an 8-0 run and closed it out quickly, winning 25-5.
"We had a nice crowd here, the fans were awesome," said SF Coach Nick Cheronis. "I asked our player to come out with more energy in the third set to really give them something to cheer about, and they responded."
Next up for Santa Fe is a third match against Pasco-Hernando State College on the road Thursday, September 18 at 7:00 PM. SF won the first two meetings between the teams 3-2 and 3-1.
"Pasco is a really good team," said Cheronis. "To beat a really good team three times in a row is Herculean to say the least. We will have our hands full, they are really well coached and run a great program. This will be a good test."
