Avon Park, FL – Just one night after picking up a big Mid-Florida Conference victory over FSC-J, the NJCAA #17/FCSAA #4 Santa Fe Saints (15-2, 2-0 MFC) were back at it on Friday, this time in Avon Park at a tournament at South Florida State College. SF defeated Broward College in straight sets (25-15, 25-18, 25-11) to start things off and then took out hosts SFSC in straight sets (25-12, 25-15, 25-21).
"This was an excellent day for the Saints," said SF Coach Nick Cheronis. "It's not too often you can pick up two road wins after an emotional conference win the night before. It says a lot about the group we have."
Thirteen players saw action in the first match against Broward, with nine of them recording at least one kill. Ruth Harrington led the way with seven kills and Kaylin Powell had six. Farah Rajaee was her usually steady self, assisting on 26 SF points. Savannah Young played well on the defensive side, digging 14, and Ann-Lorrayne Bzoch added 11 digs.
Against South Florida State, Ruth Harrington again dominated, this time racking up 16 kills on 34 attempts. Kaylin Powell also had double digit kills, finishing with 10, and Rajaee added 33 more assists
The Saints will continue their busy week, playing two more matches in Avon Park on Saturday at 9:00 AM against Indian River State College, and wrap up their week against Clearwater Christian College at 1:00 PM, making in seven matches in the last five days.
