Avon Park, FL – The NJCAA #17/FCSAA #4 Santa Fe Saints avenged one of their two losses on Saturday morning, defeating Indian River State College 3-1 (25-21, 25-22, 22-25in their third game of the South Florida State College Tournament. Later in the day SF (17-2, 2-0 MFC) took down Clearwater Christian College 3-1 (25-21, 25-22, 15, 25, 25-10), pushing their winning streak to six in a row, and 13 of their last 14. The Saints have dropped just nine sets combined over their last 14 matches.
"This has been a terrific stretch for us," said SF Coach Nick Cheronis. "To go 6-0 in a span of five days is remarkable. Today we had a lot of people play and everyone stepped up. I thought the bench play saved our winning streak."
Defense was the name of the game in the first match against Indian River, as the Saints totaled nine points off blocked shots and dug 69 balls with four players recording double digit digs.
Three players had double digit kills, Savannah Young 13, Kaylin Powell 11, and Ruth Harrington 10, and Farah Rajaee had 41 assists. Young (13 K, 12 digs), Harrington (10 K, 12 digs), and Rajaee (41 A, 11 digs) each had double doubles.
Against Clearwater Christian, the Saints again took the first two sets before dropping game three. They were able to rebound for the second straight match, overwhelming CCC 25-10 for their 17th win of the season.
The Saints will take a few well deserved days off before returning to action on the road at Daytona State College on Tuesday, September 30 at 7:00 PM. The game can be seen live on http://www.ihigh.com/daytonastate/
