Saints Earn Big MFC Win At St. John's River

October 9, 2014

Palatka, FL – The FCSAA #4/NJCAA #16 Santa Fe Saints (21-4, 4-2 MFC) did exactly what they needed to do on Thursday night, defeating Mid-Florida Conference foe St. John's River State College 3-1 on the road in Palatka, improving their MFC mark to 4-2.

"This was a gutty road conference win tonight," said SF Coach Nick Cheronis.  "Our bench play was spectacular.  We got a big lift from Haley Walker, she was huge."

The Saints and Vikings split the first two sets but SF took control with a third set 25-21 win.  That was all the momentum they would need as they closed out the win with a 25-20 fourth set victory.

Savannah Young led the way with 12 kills, Kaylin Powell had eight, and Jane Early pitched in seven.

The Saints will play a non-conference match against Trinity College of Florida on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 PM in the SF Gym.  The game will be broadcast live www.ihigh.com/santafesaints
