Gainesville, FL – The Santa Fe Saints and Daytona State College both entered Thursday evenings match needing a win to keep pace in the Mid-Florida Conference, but it was SF that came out on the winning end of a thrilling five set match, defeating the Falcons to move to 24-4 overall and 6-2 in MFC play. Daytona falls to 21-10 and 4-4 with two conference games remaining. The Santa Fe win avenges a four set loss to the Falcons back on September 30.
Kaylin Powell was a force at the net for the Saints, picking up 16 kills and eight blocks, both career highs. Ruth Harrington had her twelfth double double of the season, finishing with 13 kills and 24 digs. Julie Fuchs continued her solid play in MFC play, totaling 13 kills, and Savannah Young had nine kills. SF had 61 kills as a team and 20 blocks in route to the victory.
With the win, SF is now solidly in second place in the MFC, needing to remain in the top three to earn a FCSAA State Tournament berth.
Next up for the Saints is a non-conference match against Eastern Florida State College on Saturday, October 18 at 2:00 PM in the SF Gym, followed by a MFC match against Lake Sumter State College on Tuesday, October 21 at 7:00 PM. The Lake Sumter match will be broadcast on www.ihigh.com/santafesaints, the Eastern Florida match will not be broadcast.
