Daytona Hands SF First MFC Defeat of the Season

September 29, 2015

Gainesville, FL – The FCSAA #1/NJCAA #9 Santa Fe Saints started off on the right foot, but adjustments by Daytona State proved to be the difference as the Falcons rallied back to take a 3-1 (25-19, 19-25, 23-25, 18-25) win over the Saints after SF took set one.

Sophomore Alica Kandler led the charge for the Falcons, tallying 19 kills and 17 digs.  Nadine Williams had 15 kills for Santa Fe, along with 12 digs.

Errors proved costly for the Saints after a strong opening set, as the racked up 12 service errors and 22 attack errors.  Despite the mistakes, SF led 20-14 in set number three, with an opportunity to take control of the match with a win.  The Falcons responded by going on an 11-3 run to win the set and take a 2-1 lead.

In the third set Daytona jumped out early and staved off a late SF rally to clinch the 3-1 victory.  The win moves the Falcons to 9-9 on the season and 2-1 in MFC play.  The Saints are now 14-3 and 2-1 in the MFC.

Santa Fe will attempt to get back on the winning side of things again on Thursday, October 1 at home against Lake Sumter State College at 6:00 PM.  The game can be seen live at www.santafesaints.com
