NJCAA #4 Polk State Defeats Saints on Opening Night (16-25, 24-26, 13-25)

August 22, 2017

Gainesville, FL – The Santa Fe Saints faced off against one of the best teams in the country on Tuesday night in Winter Haven, falling to NJCAA #4 Polk State College 3-0.

The #16 Saints (0-1) never really got their footing at the outset and lost the first set 25-16.  They played much better in the second set before falling 26-24.  The third set was all Eagles 25-13 as they wrapped up the straight set win.

Sterling Williamson had seven kills to lead the way for SF.  Leah Wilcox had six kills, and Tina Mayberry five.  As a team, the Saints racked up 47 digs.

"When you are on the road against the #4 ranked team in the nation, you have to play your best volleyball and they have to help you a little," said SF Coach Nick Cheronis.  "Unfortunately neither of those things happened tonight."

Santa Fe will get a chance to bounce back on Wednesday in their home opener against Lake Sumter State College at 7:00 p.m.
