Saints Win Two at LSSC Tri-Match

The Santa Fe Saints won a pair of matches on Saturday afternoon, beating Lake Sumter State College 3-1 on their home court and defeating Indian River State College 3-2.

The Saints, ranked # 4 by the FCSAA and # 13 by the NJCAA, won the first two sets over the Lake Hawks rather handily at 25-17 each. LSSC rallied to win the third set 25-20 before the Saints closed out the match with a 25-19 win in set four.

Aspen Dangren led SF with 15 kills in the match while Maggie Mathews chipped in with 13 and Jocelyn Garcia registered 11. Garcia also had five blocks while recording a .526 hitting percentage.

The Saints came out strong again in the Indian River match winning the first set 25-16, but IRSC bounced back to take the next two sets, 25-18 and 25-23. The Saints won a thrilling fourth set 26-24 before closing out the match with a 15-10 win in set five.

Dangren registered 15 kills again in this match while Garcia had 13 while hitting .478.

"Jocelyn Garcia was huge for us today," said Head Coach Nick Cheronis, "but our whole team had to pull together for these two wins."

The Saints will travel to Jacksonville on Thursday and Friday of this week for conference matches against FSCJ and Pensacola State College before returning home for conference match against FSCJ on October 4.
