The SF to UF Pipeline Continues
Two Santa Fe athletes announce their commitment to the University of Florida.
Gainesville, FL
The Santa Fe College to the University of Florida pipeline once again shows its strength as two Saints athletes, Matthew Jenkins (Baseball) and Kevin Pazmino (Men's Basketball), have announced their commitment to be a Florida Gator.
Jenkins, a freshman from Live Oak, Florida, held a 4.74 ERA, striking out 60 batters in just 57 innings. Jenkins appeared in 16 games over the year, earning seven wins in that span. In Jenkin's second appearance in the Navy and White, he recorded a career-high eight strikeouts in just five innings of work.
Santa Fe Baseball Head Coach Johnny Wiggs stated, "We are really excited for Jenkins and his great opportunity at Florida. We love when we can send players across town to the Gators. He has a very high ceiling, and we look forward to watching him continue to develop and excel at the highest level of college baseball."
Pazmino, a native of Weston, Florida, averaged 10.3 points per game while shooting just shy of 40% from the field. The redshirt-freshman appeared in 29 games and had a career-high 22 points versus Polk State in late February.
"The Santa Fe family is excited for Kevin and this great accomplishment. He had a tremendous season under Coach Mowry last year and we are looking forward to following his career as a Gator," stated Men's Basketball Coach John Ritzdorf.
Jenkins is the 30th Saint to sign to the University of Florida in the baseball program's history. He is one of three that have signed for the Gators in the last three seasons.
Pazmino is the first Men's basketball player to transfer to Florida in over 20 years.
The SF to UF pipeline continues strong athletically and academically, as 70% of graduates enroll at UF for their four-year degree.
When asked about these athletes and the SF to UF pipeline, Santa Fe Atheltic Director Chanda Stebbins said, "Both Matthew and Kevin exemplified what it means to be a Saint, we are thrilled to see them pursuing their athletic and academic career at UF. We look forward to seeing them grow as both young adults and athletes. SicEmSaints and Go Gators!"
