Gainesville, FL
This week's Alumni Spotlight is Ashton Marshall, who was a member of the 2016 Saints Volleyball team.
Marshall was a Libero for the Saints during their historic 2016 run, totaling a team high 529 digs over 32 matches played while adding 16 aces.
Marshall went on to play at the University of West Florida and spent 3 years as a player before transitioning to become a graduate assistant from 2022-2024.
As a student-athlete, Marshall surpassed 1,000 digs and ended her career 4th all-time in digs at West Florida, standing alone at 2nd all time with 595 digs during the 2019 season. She was named 3x GSC Defensive Player of the Week, GSC All-Tournament Team, 2nd Team All-GSC, GSC Libero of the year, D2CCA All-Region 2nd team, and AVCA All-America & All-Region Honorable Mention.
In the classroom, Marshall provided guidance for each individual athlete and helped them pave the way for them to meet their goals. She additionally provided instructional support, fundamental training and skill enhancement to the athletes.
At UWF, she also worked as an adjunct instructor for Health Science Courses, providing objective and subjective feedback on student performance, delivering class instruction, and working with small groups of students to analyze material and help them understand the subject matter.
Now, Marshall is pursuing her PhD in Organizational Leadership at Abeline Christian University and works both as a Youth Volleyball Coach for Gainesville Juniors and long-term substitute for Alachua County Public Schools.
This summer, Marshall and her Gainesville Juniors U14 team won the USA Volleyball National Championship in Dallas, Texas. The team rallied to win 10-straight games after dropping the first game they played to Alliance of Tennessee; the same team they triumphed in the tournament finals.
