This week's Alumni Spotlight is Altavious "Tae" Carter, who played Men's Basketball from 2009-2012!
Tae Carter was a 6'5 guard who played for Santa Fe's Chris Mowry during the 2009-10 and 2011-12 seasons. Carter was a versatile guard who played many roles for the Saints, averaging 7.8 points per game off 40% shooting. He grew up in Belle Glade, Florida.
Carter was part of a Saints squad who went 17-12 in 09-10, 18-13 in 10-11 (redshirt), and a 26-5 record in 2011-12, totaling 43 wins in his two playing years at Santa Fe. He certainly helped the 2011-12 team to a State Tournament Semi-Final appearance.
After his playing days at Santa Fe, Carter signed with Division II Eckerd College where he spent the remaining years of his collegiate eligibility. Carter appeared in 29 games for the Tritons, averaging 2.0 points and 1.2 rebounds off of 33.3% shooting.
After his two seasons at Eckerd, Carter accepted an assistant coach role at Santa Fe under Mowry, which kickstarted his coaching career. Since then, Carter has served in many player development positions for NBA teams, including the Dallas Mavericks, Orlando Magic, Memphis Grizzlies and the Indiana Pacers. Most of those roles were based on player development, however Carter also served as G League assistant coach for Memphis and was an assistant video coordinator as well.
In the summer of 2021, Carter took the role player development specifically with post players as Team Nigeria prepped for the Tokyo Olympic Games. Carter continues to work in the game of basketball, hoping to return back to the NBA as an assistant coach with the goal of becoming an NBA Head Coach or Division I HBCU Head Coach.
