This week's Alumni Spotlight is Brooks Johnson who coached track & field!
Gainesville, FL
Brooks Johnson served as Santa Fe's track and field coach from 1977 to 1979, and his impact on the program was nothing short of remarkable. In just those few seasons, he helped elevate Santa Fe track and field to become a national prominence, coaching 20 All-Americans and 13 national champions during his time with the Saints. His success helped put Santa Fe on the map as a destination for elite competition and athlete development within the track and field world. His legacy remains one of the most significant in program history, and he was inducted into the Santa Fe Hall of Fame in 2018.
While Johnson would go on to become one of the most respected coaches in the sport of track and field, his time at Santa Fe stands as an important chapter in his extraordinary career. Known for his ability to develop athletes at the highest level, Johnson built a reputation as a visionary coach, mentor, and leader whose influence extended far beyond the track.
Johnson served as a member of the Team USA coaching staff during the 1976, 1984, 2004, and 2008 Olympic Games, where in 1984 games in Los Angeles he was head coach for the women's team.
Throughout his career, Johnson coached more than 100 Olympians and served on four United States Olympic coaching staffs, earning national and international recognition as one of the sport's greatest coaches. Even with all of his accomplishments, his years at Santa Fe stand out and are especially meaningful because of the foundation he helped build and the standard of excellence he established for Saints athletics.
