This week's Alumni Spotlight is Kayla Alexandre who played softball form 2022-2023!
Kayla Alexandre is a talented catcher with international experience who has become a dependable teammate who balances success both on and off the field.
Alexandre began her collegiate softball career in 2022 while at Florida International University, appearing in five games for the Panthers as a freshman. The following year, she transferred to Santa Fe and made an immediate impact for the Saints. In 32 games, Alexandre hit .254/.405/.365 with two doubles, one triple, one home run, and seven RBIs, posting an impressive .981 fielding percentage. Defensively, she recorded 96 putouts, 10 assists, turned a double play, and threw out four runners attempting to steal.
One of her top performances that season came early in the year against Indian River, where she went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs in her second game for the Saints. Later in the season, she had a three-hit game with a triple and two RBIs against Eastern Florida State College, showcasing her ability to contribute offensively and provide stability on the defensive end at the catcher position.
After Santa Fe, Alexandre transferred to Florida A&M University. During the 2024 season, she recorded her first career Division 1 hit and RBI against Alcorn State in an 8-2 victory. This sparked a six-game hitting streak, during which she hit .389 with three doubles, one home run, six runs scored, and four RBI. In 2025, she appeared in 33 games for the Rattlers and had several key performances throughout the year, such as her clutch RBI single in the comeback victory over Western Michigan.
Currently at UCF, Alexandre is competing at the highest collegiate level and providing depth and leadership for a historically successful Knights Softball program. This season's highlight came on May 17th when UCF stunned rival Florida State, winning 4-2 to claim the Tallahassee Regional and advance to the Super Regionals in the NCAA softball tournament. They will face Top 8 seed UCLA beginning Friday, May 22nd in California. The first game is slated to start at 9:00pm EST while game two will be the following day at 9:00pm as well. For Alexandre, returning to the program she grew up watching and attending youth camps for made this victory even more meaningful.
