UF Ortho Teammate Selection: Selena Placide
This week's Tuesday Teammate of the Week is Selena Placide!
Gainesville, FL
Placide recently completed her first season of competition at Santa Fe as both a middle blocker and opposite hitter for the volleyball team after redshirting in 2024. The 6'1 hybrid player is a graduate of Santa Fe High School and is an Orlando, Florida native, choosing Santa Fe for its proximity to her hometown.
She has quickly become an integral part of the Saints program, bringing leadership, experience, and a strong mentality to the court each day. She had the opportunity to have a year to develop and learn in her redshirt year at SF, and made the most of her opportunity during the 2025 season.
She immediately made an impact for the Saints, appearing in 25 matches during her first season. During a key three-match span in early September, Placide showcased her offensive abilities by recording 21 kills over three matches against Jones College, Lurleen B. Wallace, and St. Johns River State College. Her most impressive performance came in a five-set victory against St. Johns where she posted eight kills.
Placide's presence as a leader has uplifted her teammates on and off the court. She is noted by teammates, coaches, and members of the athletic department as one to go above and beyond for her teammates and is always willing to help new student-athletes adjust to life at Santa Fe. Her hard-working attitude, and willingness to mentor others has made her an invaluable member of the Saints community. She looks forward to playing a key role in the 2026 season on the court and within the team's culture.
UF Health Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine sponsors a "Teammate of the Week" selection from all five Santa Fe Saints sports teams. The Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC), the SF sport specific coaches, and the athletic director nominate deserving Saints for this weekly award. Teammates of the week will embody the character qualities the SAINTS (Seek, Aware, Integrity, Noble-Minded, Thankful, and Safe) emphasize and value. SF Student-Athletes who impact their team, community, classmates, and families for the better are the best candidates for this weekly award hosted by proud SF partner UF Health Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine.
