This week's Alumni Spotlight is Joshua Watkins, who played Men's Basketball from 2023-2025!

Joshua Watkins played for Santa Fe Men's Basketball for two years. At Santa Fe, Watkins was recognized not just for his skills as a player, but for his character and for his faith. Joining the Student Athletic Advisory Committee, Watkins was a key representative and advocate for Santa Fe Men's Basketball and Santa Fe Athletics. In 2024, Watkins received the Heart of Champions award from the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, marking the second straight year in which a Santa Fe basketball player received the award (Kelli Cunningham in 2023). The FCA's award is given to one student-athlete representative from each participating Florida school, honoring those who have demonstrated the FCA's values of integrity, serving, teamwork, and excellence.

After his two successful years with Santa Fe, Watkins made the move from Gainesville to Santa Clarita, CA to play at The Masters University. Joining the basketball team, he appeared in 13 games this past season, helping the Mustangs to a 22-10 record. The Mustangs would go on to upset two top-12 NAIA teams in their playoff opportunity. 

Following the conclusion of the basketball season, an unexpected twist came in Watkins' career. Being approached with an offer from track and field head coach Daniel Rush, Watkins joined the track team and became a two-sport athlete. Playing track for the first time since 2019, Watkins impressed with his performances in the high jump, and is ranked #63 in the nation by the NAIA. Breaking two records, Watkins set not only his own personal best, but the school record for The Masters University

Following his record-setting 2025-26 athletic campaign, Watkins made the most of his time at home in Valrico, FL. With the help of his childhood friends, Watkins hosted his own youth athletics camp in his community, bringing an opportunity for his hometown's generation of athletes to develop.

After a decorated first three years, Watkins is now focused on his senior year with The Masters University, where he will continue to compete as a two-sport athlete. Bringing his leadership and passion for the next generation of athletes, Watkins is assisting former Houston Rockets player Aaron Holiday in basketball camps. Demonstrating his strong character and impact both on and off the court, Watkins is a difference-making alumnus of Santa Fe College.
