Saints Rally for 10-4 Win Over Hillsborough
An RBI single by Xavier Moronta broke a 4-4 tie and a two-run double by Nick Herdon led to a four-run sixth inning as the Saints defeated the Hawks of Hillsborough Community College 10-4 Friday afternoon in Gainesville.
Luis Rodriguez hit a towering two-run home run over the scoreboard to erase a one-run deficit in the first inning and the teams were tied heading into the bottom of the sixth.
"The pitchers did a good job today and we got some timely hits at the plate," said SF head coach Johnny Wiggs.
Herdon was a perfect 3-for-3 on the day and Rodriguez drove in four runs.
Anthony Arguelles started and went five innings for the Saints. The sophomore allowed just one earned run. Jake Blair (1-0) pitched the final four innings to earn the win. The freshman, righthander out of North Marion High School pitched out of a bases loaded jam in the seventh and cruised through the eighth and ninth innings.
SF (2-2) travels to Douglas, Ga. Saturday to take on South Georgia State College in a game scheduled to start at 2 pm. The date was originally set for a doubleheader but was reduced to one game due to wet grounds.
