No. 11 Baseball Drops Regular Season Finale at College of Central Florida
OCALA, Fla. – Two days after securing their fourth Mid-Florida Conference Championship in the last five seasons, No. 11 Santa Fe Baseball concluded the 2021 regular season with a 9-1 defeat in seven innings of play at the College of Central Florida.
The College of Central Florida took a 1-0 lead after the opening inning, after their first three batters of the game all reached safely with hits.
A two-run home run in the fourth inning to go along with an RBI single put CF in front 4-0 in the bottom of the fourth.
The Patriots once again did damage with the long ball in the fifth inning, hitting a three-run homer to extend the lead to 8-0.
Although the Saints brought a run across in the seventh with a Bret Madren double, Gabriel Esquivel single, and Jake McKee sacrrifice fly, the Patriots won by run-rule in their next at-bats, 9-1, with the Patriots' third home run of the game.
Key Statistics
The Saints were only able to muster four hits against the seven pitchers that threw an inning each for the Patriots.
Madren accounted for the only run of the game after his double, and McKee drove him in with the sacrifice fly. Phillips extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a single in the fourth inning, while Rodriguez's streak grew to 11.
Brooks Walton was charged with the loss on the mound, conceding four earned runs in four innings pitched. Lance Bolton, Robb Adams, and Eduardo Yepes each made appearances out of the bullpen.
