Baseball's Armando Albert Commits to FAU
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – After one season with the Saints, infielder Armando Albert of Santa Fe College Baseball has signed to continue his academic and athletic career with the Florida Atlantic University Owls.
FAU is a member of the Division I Conference USA. In 2022, John McCormack will be entering his 14th season as Head Coach and 32nd season with the program.
McCormack has led the program to six straight Conference USA tournaments, with two trips resulting in tournament runner-up finishes. He also led FAU to four trips to the NCAA National Tournament within the past 6 years (excluding 2020 due to COVID-19).
In 2021, the Owls compiled a 32-25 record (18-14 C-USA) and bowed out to No. 18 Old Dominion in the C-USA Tournament. FAU had previously won two games in the tournament, including knocking off the top-seeded Charlotte 49ers.
Albert, the Broward County, Florida native and Belen Jesuit High School graduate, played primarily at shortstop for Head Coach Johnny Wiggs.
The left-handed hitter batted for a .312 average with ten doubles and a triple on the season, typically batting at the top of the order. Albert ranked third on the team in runs scored (37) and hits (44) and fourth in RBI (27). Additionally, he ranked second on the team with nine stolen bases.
On the defensive side, Albert played a role in turning 11 double plays.
Albert had a standout game in a March 22nd matchup against Lake-Sumter State College, where he exploded for two doubles, a triple, three runs scored, and four RBI.
He notched a hit in five of the six FCSAA State Tournament games and tied his season-high with four RBI in the 8-7, 11-inning victory over Indian River State College. Albert was one of seven Saints to be named to the All-Tournament Team at the FCSAA State Tournament, where SF finished as the runners-up.
