Walton Commits to Compete on the Mound for UAB
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - After three seasons with the Saints, pitcher Brooks Walton of Santa Fe College baseball has signed to continue his academic and athletic career with the Division I UAB Blazers.
UAB (University of Alabama at Birmingham), is a member of C-USA, and Interim Head Coach Perry Roth is coming off his first season in that role for the Blazers after serving in various capacities for the previous 14 seasons with the program.
Walton, the sophomore Gainesville, Fla. native and Buchholz High School graduate, provided plenty of quality starts for Head Coach Johnny Wiggs over the course of his career at SF.
The 6'5" right-handed hurler appeared and started in 10 games in 2021, pitching 46.1 innings for a record of 1-1. He recorded 41 strikeouts on the year and had an ERA of 3.30 before suffering an injury.
Walton allowed only one hit and one walk for six scoreless innings and a season-high seven strikeouts in a January 28th win against Tallahassee Community College. This performance earned him FCSAA/NJCAA Region 8 Pitcher of the Week.
In 2020, Walton appeared and started in six games, pitching for 35.2 innings and possessing a record of 4-0. He tossed two complete games and one shutout. He recorded 32 strikeouts and had an ERA of 1.77 before the remainder of the season was cancelled due to COVID-19.
In 2019 as a true freshman, he appeared in 15 games and made three starts. He concluded the season with a 4-2 record, a 3.02 ERA, 36 strikeouts, and displayed dominance with a no-hitter on Feb. 20 against ABAC.
