Mitchell Gross of SF Baseball Signs with Georgia Southern
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Pitcher Mitchell Gross of Santa Fe College Baseball has signed on to continue his playing career at Georgia Southern.
In 2021, Gross tied for first on the team in wins from the mound, finishing with a 7-3 record. He posted a 4.01 ERA in 74 innings of work, and ranked No. 2 on the team in strikeouts with 73 on his way to First Team All Mid-Florida Conference honors and Second Team All-FCSAA recognition. The Saints concluded the 2021 campaign with a 33-13 record, a Mid-Florida Conference Championship with an 18-4 mark in MFC play, and the runner-up finish at the FCSAA State Tournament.
"I'm very proud of Mitchell Gross and his development in his time here at Santa Fe," said Head Coach Johnny Wiggs. "He will help Georgia Southern a lot, as he is a guy that can truly pitch by throwing four different pitches for strikes at anytime in the count. He was huge for us last year as our No. 2 guy and we will need him to come up big again this year as he steps into the No. 1 spot."
Georgia Southern is a member of the Division I Sun Belt Conference. Head Coach Rodney Hennon recently finished his 22nd season with the team. In 2021, Hennon led the Eagles to a 34-23 record, returning to the Sun Belt Championship game for the fourth time in five seasons.
Two former Saints are also currently on the Eagles' roster, Parker Biederer and Nick Herndon.
Gross and the Saints will begin the 2022 season on Jan. 28 at home against Hillsborough Community College. The first pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
