Baseball's Moronta Committed to Join App State Mountaineers
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Xavier Moronta of Santa Fe College Baseball has made a commitment to attend Appalachian State University to continue his academic and baseball career.
Moronta completed his third season at SF in 2022, contributing in every season and especially in 2022 as a Mid-Florida Conference First Team outfielder. He played in 37 games and ranked second on the team in batting average at .344. On the year, the Miramar, Fla. native and Doral Academy product contributed 43 hits, 30 RBI, 14 doubles, two triples, and three home runs. Moronta had hits in 15 of the Saints' last 16 outings, which included a ten-game hitting streak, and he produced 13 multi-hit games. Perhaps his best outing of the season came in an Apr. 15 win over St. Johns River, when he drove in a season-high four runs.
Appalachian State University Baseball is coached by Kermit Smith, who was hired in July of 2016. The NCAA Division I Mountaineers finished 2022 with a record of 20-33 overall and and 10-20 in the Sun Belt Conference, but Moronta's play will hopefully make an impact for the team from Boone, N.C.
Moronta is now the twelfth baseball commitment to be announced on santafesaints.com, listed below.
