Graham's Home Runs Help Lift Saints Over Lakehawks
Leesburg, FL - On Wednesday, the Saints traveled to Lake-Sumter College to play the Lakehawks after a series win over State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota yesterday. BJ Graham had multiple home runs to help lead the Saints in a 12-7 victory past the Lakehawks.
How It Happened
The Saints started out hot at the plate to open the first inning. After the first two batters reached on walks, BJ Graham stepped up to the plate and hit a three-run homerun. He led the team offensively, going 3-for-5 at the plate with four RBIs. The Saints out hit the Lakehawks 12to eight on the day.
In the second inning, the Saints kept the offense cranking as they would capitalize on errors. They would go on to score a total of six runs in the inning. Drake Harman hit an RBI double to right field, scoring Javier Soto, putting the score at 9-0.
In the third inning, Lake-Sumter began to show more signs of life as they would go on to score two runs in the inning. This was sparked by a sacrifice fly to score Dylan Bigard. In the bottom of the fourth inning, they climbed back into the game by putting together a string of base runners and scoring three. Tanner Reid hit an RBI triple to facilitate the Lakehawks push and cut the Saints' lead to 9-5.
Defense became the name of the game as the Lakehawks were able to slow down the Saints offense, only allowing them to score one more run until the ninth inning. Both Javier Soto and BJ Graham homered in the top of the ninth to help grow the lead. The Saints gave up an additional two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning.
The Saints held on to the lead and took the 12-7 win over the Lakehawks.
Comments From Coach Wiggs
Hitters got off to a great start scoring nine runs in the first two innings. Johns and Blanks were good for us on the mound combining for five shutout innings. Hopefully we can carry the momentum into tomorrow.
