Santa Fe (8-6) (0-3) swept by Daytona State (8-5) (3-0) in the first conference series of the year.
Santa Fe was looking to get back in the win column vs Daytona State after falling to them in the conference opener on Thursday. Santa Fe honored former head coach Harry Tholen on the field pregame as he received his plaque for his induction into the NJCAA Region IV Hall of Fame for Lifetime Achievement. Tholen's family, friends, coaches, players, and many others who knew him very well gathered as he was given the Lifetime Achievement plaque from Region IV of the NJCAA.
The Saints struggled to manufacture runs at the plate and their pitching woes continued as the Falcons scored 25 runs in the series.
Game 1, 12-4 Loss.
Daytona State College were the first to get on the board in the first on a solo home run to left field on the first pitch of the afternoon. They then added another run in the second after a groundout.
A two run home run to left field, doubled the falcons lead in the third inning, 4-0. Daytona State College scored five runs on four hits in the top of the sixth inning. Wilson doubled, scoring three runs, Lopez doubled, scoring one run, and Duque doubled, scoring one run.
The Saints answered by scoring two runs in the bottom of the sixth on a home run to right field by James Suarez.
Caleb Clanton pitched four innings in relief for Santa Fe. The pitcher allowed six hits and six runs while, striking out two and walking three. Kolten Leach took the loss for Santa Fe Saints as the starter. He went two innings, surrendering four runs (three earned) on five hits, striking out two and walking two.
Suarez led Santa Fe Saints with two runs batted in. The outfielder went 2-for-3 on the day.
Game 2, 7-4 Loss
Daytona State opened the scoring in the first after a single scored two. They extended their early lead with two runs in the top of the second thanks to RBI doubles by Pasternack and Falloon.
Easton McMahan took the loss for Santa Fe Saints. He went one and two-thirds innings, allowing four runs on five hits, striking out none and walking one in his start.
ShawnAndrade set the tone at the top of the lineup, leading Santa Fe with two hits in four at bats. Ryan Chase led Santa Fe with two runs batted in; going 1-for-4 on the day.
Santa Fe will next play at home on Tuesday against Lake-Sumter State College, first pitch starting at 2:00pm.
