Saints Lose Thriller in Tallahassee
Led by 38 points from Tre Dubois and 10 assists from Jahari Simmons, Saints unable to overcome 11-point halftime deficit.
Santa Fe College (3-0) traveled to the Tallahassee State College Eagles (4-0) Wednesday night in a battle of undefeated teams.
The first 5 minutes went back-and-forth with the score tied 12-12. The Eagles were then able to go on a 17-6 run to take a 29-18 lead. The Saints further fell behind 36-20 as they were unable to convert their three-point attempts. Alex Nokes made a three right before halftime to cut the deficit to 11 (40-29). The Saints were 2/15 from three compared to 5/12 by the Eagles in the first half. Tre Dubois led all scorers in the first half with 13 points on 5/8 shooting.
Dubois and Nokes opened the second half with threes, cutting the deficit to single digits (43-34). A three by Jahari Simmons cut the deficit to 51-45, and Alex Pierre-Louis grabbed an offensive rebound and drained a three to maintain this gap (59-52). Dubois followed with back-to-back threes to bring the score within one (59-58). Tallahassee extended their lead to 71-63, but three threes in a row by Dubois tied the game 75-75. Santa Fe took the lead 80-79 with a three by Guy Twitty. However, Tallahassee hit a step-back shot along the baseline and shut down the Saints' inbound pass under the basket to escape with the 81-80 win.
Tre Dubois scored 38 points for the Saints while shooting 14/19 and 8/11 from three. Jahari Simmons finished with 10 assists.
Head Coach John Ritzdorf's thoughts on the game: "It was a game of two halves. Tallahassee beat us to too many loose balls and scored on their second and third chances. We had some really good looks that wouldn't fall. Then the second half we got some shots to fall and guarded much better to finish the game. Tre [Dubois] had an unbelievable game and hit several big shots. I'm disappointed in the final result but very proud of how we battled back against a very good team."
The Saints return home on Saturday, November 15th to take on The Potters House at 4:00 PM EST.
