Saints take down Eagles
Harvey Wilson's career high helps Santa Fe notch win number 17
FINAL: Santa Fe Saints 73, Polk State College Eagles 57
It was all Saints from the jump on Wednesday night.
Joel Harrison, Harvey Wilson, Moses Horne, Palmer Walton, and Alex Pierre-Louis got the start for the Saints on Wednesday night. Harrison would start the Saints off hot by causing a turnover on the first Eagles possession of the game, as well as adding on a three-pointer that capped off a Saints 10-2 start in the game's first six minutes.
However, it was Alex Pierre-Louis and Harvey Wilson that proved to be the biggest problems that the Eagles had few answers for throughout the game.
Wilson, the 6'7 forward from Tampa, FL., would extend the Saints' lead to 21-11 with 12 first-half points on 5 field goals, two of which he was rewarded with a free-throw. Pierre-Louis, the freshman guard from Margate, FL., helped engineer the 19-point first-half lead with 10 first-half points, including 2 made three-pointers. The guard's craftiness was on display with a nifty pass between defenders to Cornelius White in the paint, who would then earn a tough and-1 under the rim to cap off a 36-19 first half lead.
The dominant duo didn't wait long to strike in the second half, either.
Wilson continued to be a force in the paint on both ends. Within the first minute, he made a statement slam after another highlight-reel pass from Pierre-Louis found him under the rim. Wilson would follow the powerful dunk with a shutdown block near the rim on the very next Eagles possession, and another within two minutes down the stretch to help stamp the win. Pierre-Louis and Wilson would finish the game with 15 and 18 points, respectively.
After a quiet first half, sophomore guard Moses Horne added 8 second-half points on 4 field goals to put the exclamation mark on the win. Near the two-minute mark, the guard from Denver, CO. made a tough contested layup, falling to the court after his bucket. The bucket would prove to be the dagger for the Saints, shutting down any hope of a late Eagles comeback. Energized by the second-half effort from Horne, Saints' offense marched on the rest of the way to win by a score of 73-57.
The Saints (17-5) travel next to Daytona State College (18-4) to face the #12-ranked Falcons on Saturday, February 7th at 4:00pm.
