Saints Bring Down Titans In Sweep
St. Petersburg, FL- On Saturday, the Santa Fe softball team traveled south to face St. Petersburg College in a doubleheader. The Saints took both games in a sweep.
How It Happened
Game 1
Ryleigh Bauer started in the circle for Santa Fe. She pitched three innings, surrendering two hits and zero runs. Peyton Bass pitched four innings in relief for the Saints. She gave up one earned run, striking out four. Miriade Los Angeles Fory started things off for the Titans. She struggled in the circle due to the heavy offensive onslaught by the Saints.
The Saints wasted no time getting on the board. In the first inning, leadoff Kamaya Cohen singled on a ground ball to the shortstop. Alexis Daphney hit an RBI home run to right field to give the Saints the first runs of the game. Juliann Smith tripled on a line drive to center. Anna Burnside followed hit a double to score two runs (Karris Rhine and Madi Conway). By the end of the first inning, the Saints had taken the lead over the Titans 5-0.
The Saints would add to their total in the second and third innings. Sydney Fowler extended the Saints lead after hitting a double, putting the score at 8-0. In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Titans would come on strong by scoring three runs. Alyssa Brown was the catalyst when she singled to right field. Two of the Titans' runs were reached on errors.
The final score of game one was 8-3.
Game 2
In Game 2, the Saints garnered their second win of the day in only a five-inning effort. Mallory Forrester pitched all five innings for the Saints, giving up only one run with three strikeouts.
The top hitter for the Saints was Juliann Smith, who went 3-for-3 in the game. Madi Conway also had a strong presence at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Ayla Horne led the Titans by going 3-for-3 at the plate.
The Saints scored a total of nine runs in five innings, scoring in each inning. They recorded nine total hits while the Titans collected only four. Saints win with a final score of 9-1.
