The Saints (17-3, 2-2) traveled to Daytona State College (19-9, 4-4) for a doubleheader on Tuesday, March 3rd, winning the first game 7-1 and losing the second game 2-1.
Game 1
Molly Bender walked and scored from a double by Miranda Murch to put the Saints up 1-0 in the top of the first inning.
Tegan Grizzard hit a home run after Rylie Blankenship singled to increase the Saints' lead to 3-0 in the top of the fourth.
An error by the Saints allowed the Falcons to score a run in the bottom of the fifth, but the Saints responded with four runs in the top of the sixth. Blankenship hit a leadoff single and Grizzard walked, then Mckenzie Cox hit a home run. Bender doubled and advanced to third on a groundout, then scored on a sacrifice fly by Murch to extend the lead to 7-1.
Belle Mancillas forced three groundouts from the first three batters in the bottom of the seventh to secure the win.
Mancillas started and pitched all seven innings, recording three strikeouts and allowing three hits, one walk, and one run.
Blankenship led the team with three hits, Cox led the team with three RBIs, and Bender led the team with two stolen bases.
Game 2
The Falcons had a leadoff hitter in the bottom of the third who would end up scoring the first run of the game to give Daytona a 1-0 lead.
A leadoff double for the Falcons in the bottom of the sixth would end up scoring from a bunt and a single to give the Falcons a 2-0 lead.
Down 2-0 in the top of the seventh, Haylee McCrea hit a leadoff home run to cut the Saints' deficit to 2-1. However, the Saints were unable to score again as they finished with two ground outs and a line out.
Chloe Woods started for the Saints, recording two strikeouts and allowing four hits, three walks, and two runs in six innings.
#8 Santa Fe College will host #5 Indian River State College (17-3, 1-1) on Saturday, March 7th for a doubleheader starting at 1:00pm. Indian River split their most recent series vs #15 Seminole State College of Florida.
