McKenzie Cox's two home runs and 3 RBI's helped Santa Fe beat Hillsborough 10-0 in Game 1.
A solo home run to center field by Cox on an 0-2 count put Santa Fe on the board in the bottom of the first. The offensive day continued with four more runs in the bottom of the second inning on two hits. Camryn VanGalder doubled, scoring one run, an error scored one run, and Cox's second homer in as many innings scored two runs. A sacrifice fly in the third by Haylee McCrea added another run for the Saints.
Santa Fe added four more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on four hits. Hannah Hargrave doubled, scoring one run, and Miranda Murch homered to center field, scoring three runs.
Chloe Woods earned the win for Santa Fe Saints. The pitcher gave up one hit and zero runs over five innings, striking out seven and walking one.
Game 2 was very similar as the long ball again helped lift the Saints over Hillsborough to secure the sweep.
Sydney English doubled in the first inning that scored one run. Three more Santa Fe Saints runs crossed the plate in the second inning to extend the lead to 4-0. Camryn VanGalder hit a solo home run to left field, an error scored one run, and McKenzie Cox hit a sacrifice fly, scoring another run. Three more runs in the bottom of the third inning were added as well, putting the Saints infront and in control at 8-0.
Camryn VanGalder grounded out, scoring one run, and Tegan Grizzard homered to left field, scoring two runs.
Morgyn Stevens earned the win for Santa Fe Saints. The starter surrendered zero hits and zero runs over three innings, striking out three and walking none. Skyler Alvarez appeared in relief for Santa Fe.
Grizzard and VanGalder were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in two runs. Molly Bender and Grizzard each stole multiple bases, as the team amassed seven in the game.
The Saints travel to Fort Myers, Florida on Saturday, March 21st for a doubleheader beginning at 12:00pm. The #4 Bucs sit at 25-5 and had just recently split the series vs #9 Indian River. The game will be streamed live and is accessible here: Florida Southwestern College Athletics Athletics
