Sante Fe (31-6, 16-5) hosted St. Petersburg College (14-24, 5-17) for a doubleheader on Tuesday, March 31st. The Saints won Game 1 17-1 and Game 2 10-1.
Game 1
The Saints came out swinging, scoring nine runs in the bottom of the first to take a 9-0 lead. Haylee McCrea homered to score Miranda Murch and Ellie Frierson and put the Saints up 5-0. Mckenzie Cox scored the Saints' ninth run of the inning from a Sydney English double.
Tegan Grizzard homered in the bottom of the second to score Frierson and extend the Saints' lead to 11-0.
The Saints hit three home runs in the bottom of the third to extend the lead to 17-0. Cox homered to score Molly Bender, Murch homered to score English, and Gabby Grieco homered to score Kadence Compton.
St. Petersburg hit a leadoff home run in the top of the fifth to avoid the shutout, but the Saints ultimately won 17-1.
Molly Bender, Mckenzie Cox, and Sydney English all recorded three hits. Rylie Blankenship led the team with two stolen bases.
Belle Mancillas earned the win, recording four strikeouts and allowing one hit over three innings.
Kadence Compton finished the game, recording three strikeouts and allowing one hit, one walk, and one run over two innings.
Game 2
Miranda Murch homered in the bottom of the first to score Molly Bender and give the Saints a 2-0 lead.
Mckenzie Cox hit a leadoff home run in the bottom of the third to extend the lead to 3-0.
Santa Fe scored seven runs in the bottom of the fourth to extend the lead to 10-0. Tegan Grizzard, Rylie Blankenship and Ellie Frierson all doubled during the inning. Grizzard doubled to start the inning and doubled again for the Saints' seventh run of the inning.
Back-to-back walks followed by a single in the top of the fifth allowed St. Petersburg to avoid the shutout again, but Skyler Alvarez ended the inning with three strikeouts in a row to secure the 10-1 run-rule victory.
Chloe Woods earned the win, allowing one hit and no runs over three innings. Morgyn Stevens recorded a strikeout and allowed one hit in one inning pitched. Skyler Alvarez wrapped up the game with three strikeouts and one hit, two walks, and one run in one inning.
Miranda Murch, Haylee McCrea, Ellie Frierson, and Tegan Grizzard all recorded two hits. Rylie Blankenship and Molly Bender both stole a base.
The Saints will return to action next Tuesday, April 7th as they host #20 Daytona State College for a doubleheader starting at 2:00pm.
