Santa Fe Sweeps at Hillsborough
Santa Fe scored three runs in the top of the first inning in both games of the doubleheader as the Saints improve to 39-9.

The Saints (39-9, 24-8) traveled to Hillsborough Community College (8-40, 3-29) on Tuesday, April 21st for a doubleheader. Santa Fe won the first game 7-2 and won the second game 9-6 after being tied 5-5.
Game 1
Walks by Miranda Murch and Sydney English and singles by Mckenzie Cox and Ellie Frierson allowed the Saints to score three runs in the top of the first inning.
Two errors by the Saints allowed Hillsborough to score two runs in the bottom of the second and cut the lead to 3-2.
A leadoff single in the top of the fifth by Cox followed by a Murch double and English single scored two runs for the Saints, extending the lead to 5-2.
Hillsborough drew a leadoff walk in the bottom of the fifth, but grounded into a double play and ended the inning with another ground out.
Singles by Murch and Gabby Grieco as well as a double by English provided two insurance runs and extended the lead to 7-2.
Morgyn Stevens retired all three batters of the bottom of the seventh with a pair of ground outs and a line out.
Miranda Murch and Sydney English led the team with three hits, and English and Ellie Frierson both recorded two RBIs. Mckenzie Cox recorded two of the Saints' five stolen bases of the game.
Belle Mancillas recorded the win, tallying four strikeouts, one hit, one walk, and two runs (zero earned) over two innings.
Morgyn Stevens pitched five innings of relief, recording three strikeouts, two hits, and four walks.
Game 2
Similar to Game 1, the Saints scored three runs in the top of the first inning in Game 2. Mckenzie Cox singled, Miranda Murch walked, Sydney English doubled, and Ellie Frierson hit a sacrifice fly to give Santa Fe another 3-0 lead.
A hit by pitch, error, and pair of singles gave Hillsborough two runs in the bottom of the first, cutting the lead to 3-2.
A Rylie Blankenship single, Molly Bender single, and Cox reached on an error extended the Saints lead to 5-2 in the top of the second.
Hillsborough tied the game 5-5 in the bottom of the third with a leadoff single, ground out to advance the runner, single, hit by pitch, single, and bases-loaded walk, and bases-loaded single.
Santa Fe regained the lead 7-5 in the top of the fourth with a Blankenship leadoff single, Bender double, and Cox sacrifice bunt.
The Saints further extended the lead to 9-5 with a leadoff walk by Tegan Grizzard, double by Blankenship, and Hannah Hargrave bunt that turned into a Hillsborough error.
The leadoff batter for Hillsborough reached an on error in the bottom of the sixth, and a two-out single gave them a run, cutting the lead to 9-6. Morgyn Stevens retired the first two batters in the bottom of the seventh with a pair of groundouts and ended the game with a strikeout.
Rylie Blankenship led the team with three hits, Molly Bender led the team with two RBIs, and Mckenzie Cox, Tegan Grizzard, and Blankenship all stole two bases.
Chloe Woods started on the mound, recording two strikeouts, seven hits, one walk, and five runs (three earned) over three innings.
Morgyn Stevens pitched four innings of relief, tallying four strikeouts, three hits, one walk and one run (zero earned).
Hillsborough outhit Santa Fe 10-8, but they committed four errors to the Saints' two.
The #6 Saints will host #1 Florida SouthWestern State College (43-5, 29-3) on Saturday, April 25th for a doubleheader starting at 12:00pm. FSW swept the Saints in Fort Myers, FL on Saturday, March 21st, winning Game 1 5-3 and Game 2 2-1.
