Sydney English signs to Penn State University
Gainesville, FL
Following a career year that ended with a trip to the NJCAA DI College World Series, Sydney English will be heading to Penn State University. English started at catcher during the 2026 season, and proved to be among the region's most successful players. As an academic, English is pursuing education as her major.
English's rise to stardom in 2026 was well-noted. Between her freshman and sophomore seasons, English increased her batting average from .236 to .378, adding 71 more hits, 38 more RBI, and 19 more extra-base hits. Defensively, she earned 109 more putouts en route to a .986 fielding percentage. Given her performance, English played a key role on both sides of the field in ensuring the Saints' softball trip to the NJCAA DI World Series.
For her efforts both on and off the field, English earned numerous awards during her time with Santa Fe. For her performance on the field, English earned honors as a member of the First Team All-Citrus Conference North, as well as Second Team All-FCSAA. In the classroom, she earned FCSAA Academic All-State honors in both seasons, and was an honoree in each semester on the All-Saints Academic Team. She was also named the Most Valuable person at the 2026 Players Choice Awards.
English will be joining a Penn State team who has seen recent success, achieving four 30+ win seasons in four of the last five years. English will be playing for Head Coach Clarisa Crowell who will be in her seventh season as head coach.
