TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - For the second time this season, setter Maria Hernandez of Santa Fe volleyball has been chosen as the FSCAA/NJCAA Region 8 Setter of the Week, based on her standout performance at Pensacola State College on Saturday, March 6. 

With the selection, Hernandez has automatically been submitted for NJCAA Player of the Week consideration.

Hernandez put on a setting clinic in the sweep against the Pirates, doling out 37 assists while helping SF hit for a season-high percentage of .356. In addition, Hernandez recorded a career-high seven kills on ten attacks for a .600 attack percentage to go along with eight digs defensively.

The sophomore from Bayamon, Puerto Rico and graduate of The Rock School currently ranks No. 8 in the NJCAA Division I in assists/set (10.25) and No. 10 in total assists (543). 

It is the fourth Player of the Week honor in 2021 for Santa Fe volleyball. Hernandez has now won Setter of the Week on two occasions, Madison Sheffield was the Player of the Week on Jan. 26, and Kariana Ayala was the Defender of the Week on March 2. 

Santa Fe (14-2, 5-0 MFC), who moved up to No. 15 in the NJCAA Division I Poll, will next take the floor on Wednesday, March 10 at No. 17 Daytona State College. The regular season-finale is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
