Sheffield of SF Volleyball to Attend USF
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Madison Sheffield, the Mid-Florida Conference Player of the Year and NJCAA All-Region VIII selection for Santa Fe volleyball, intends to walk-on at NCAA Division I USF.
USF is a member of the American Athletic Conference, and the Bulls are coming off a 6-8 season. The program is coached by Jolene Shepardson, a former USF standout on the court who was named head coach of the Bulls volleyball program on Jan. 8, 2020. The Tampa native returned to USF 18 years after helping lead the Bulls volleyball program to its last conference championship and NCAA tournament appearance as a student-athlete in 2002.
Sheffield, the sophomore outside hitter from Jacksonville, Fla. and Bartram Trail High School, found the floor for double-digit kills in 11 of the 21 matches for the Saints, and averaged a team-high 3.32 kills/set to rank No. 9 in the FCSAA and 37th nationally.
She compiled seven double-doubles on the year with kills and digs, and tied her career-high in kills for a match with 20 on two occasions, at Polk State College on Jan. 23 and at Pasco-Hernando State College on Jan. 29.
Sheffield was additionally chosen as the Region 8 Player of the Week on Jan. 26., and contributed all over the court for the Saints. No. 11 recorded double-digit digs for SF in eleven matches, and undoubtedly was a team leader that played a key role in the Saints' success towards a Mid-Florida Conference Championship and an overall record of 17-4.
