Volleyball Sweeps Lake-Sumter State to Open 2021 Season
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - For the first time since October 19 of 2019, Santa Fe College volleyball took to their home floor. The Saints swept past visiting Lake-Sumter State College, 25-23, 25-20, 25-21.
The opening set went back-and-forth, and with the Saints leading 24-23, an attack from the Hawks hit the left antenna to award Santa Fe the 1-0 advantage.
The Saints jumped out to a 12-4 timeout in Set 2, forcing a timeout from Lake-Sumter State. Although the guests were able to draw a little closer as the set wore on, Santa Fe sealed the deal and moved to within one set of the sweep.
Lake-Sumter State held a slim advantage at the beginining of the third frame, but the Saints quickly erased the deficit and inched closer to the victory.
The final point of the match was earned after a nice serve from Maria Hernandez led to an overpass on the receiving end from the Hawks. Kylee Haaf put the finishing touches to the match with a kill, sending the Saints into celebration with the season-opening 3-0 result.
It was the Saints' third-consecutive win over the Hawks, after sweeping the two-game series in the 2018 season.
Madison Sheffield paced the Saints with 17 kills, while Kassidy Bolling put down 14 of her own

Head Coach Nick Cheronis: "I thought we played with excellent consistency of effort, but not necessarily execution. However, that is to be expected. Our outside hitters were tremendous today."
