Volleyball Downed 3-1 at No. 4 Polk State College
WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - Santa Fe College volleyball went on the road and competed with NJCAA D1 No. 4 Polk State, eventually falling in a tightly contested match, 26-24, 25-17, 25-27, 25-19.
After dropping the opening two sets, Santa Fe was able to prevail in a well-played third set to force a fourth.
The Eagles, however, handed the Saints their first defeat of the season by pulling away in the fourth.
For the second consecutive match, Madison Sheffield led the Saints attack in the kills category, finishing with 20. Lilli Bentz added 12.
Maria Hernandez executed the attack from the setter position to the tune of 44 assists, and led the way defensively as well with a career-high 27 digs.
Kariana Ayala contributed 18 digs, while Katelyn Crofts was effective at the net with seven blocks.

"I give Polk State credit with their serving," said Head Coach Nick Cheronis. "They put a lot of constant pressure on our passers and that was eventually the difference. Our players played their hearts out, and we just needed a break here or there and we win that match."
