Volleyball Outlasts Pasco-Hernando State College in Five-Set Thriller
NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. - Santa Fe volleyball played its first five-set match of the 2021 season and came out on top, 20-25, 25-19, 23-25, 25-19, 15-13 at Pasco-Hernando State College.
After allowing a third-set lead to slip away, the Saints bounced right back and forced the fifth set with a 25-19 result in Set 4.
In the decisive set, Pasco-Hernando held an 11-7 advantage before Santa Fe won six of the next seven points to go in front 13-12, after an ace from Emily Loose forced a Bobcats timeout.
Lilli Bentz's kill found the back left corner to put the Saints one point away from the win, 14-12.
After the Bobcats earned a point, the exhilarating victory was secured after a Pasco-Hernando swing was stuffed at the net by Kylee Haaf.
The Saints had 98 digs as a team in the match, making it difficult for the Bobcats to find the floor.
Individually, Madison Sheffield had perhaps her best all-around match of her career as a Saint, tying a career-high with 20 kills to go along with a season-high 16 digs. Freshman Kassidy Bolling finished with 15 kills.
The Cheronis Perspective
Head Coach Nick Cheronis: "We always have a great match against Pasco-Hernando. In some ways we were fortunate to come away with a win. Having said that, our players deserved that outcome. Winning on the road will be a valuable experience for our first conference match at Florida State College at Jacksonville on Tuesday."
