Volleyball's Sixth Straight Win Comes in Sweep of Pensacola State College
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Santa Fe volleyball extended their winning streak to six matches, beating Pensacola State College in Mid-Florida Conference play, 25-15, 25-18, 25-18.
With the win, the Saints improved to 7-1 and 2-0 in the MFC, and have now won all nine sets played so far inside the SF Gymasium.
Set 1
After dropping the first point of the match, the Saints scored six unanswered points to jump in front of the Pirates, 6-1.
Santa Fe was in control throughout the rest of Set 1. The Saints earned the final point with a Katelyn Crofts kill, her third in the early going, to win 25-15.
Set 2
With the score tied at 12-12, the Saints went on a 7-1 run to lead 19-13. Five different Santa Fe attackers had kills during the stretch of play.
Santa Fe used that separation it had created to go ahead 2-0 with a 25-18 result over the Pirates.
Set 3
The final set appeared as if it would be a runaway, with Santa Fe establishing a 7-3 lead. Pensacola State, however, worked their way back into contention and took their first lead of the third set, 16-15, forcing an SF timeout.
The Saints' timeout paid dividends. With the score knotted up at 18-18, Santa Fe finished the match in style and in the blink of an eye, rattling off the match's last seven points in the fourth sweep of the season. Amelia MacCallum served up an ace on match point.
By the end of the match, Emily Register had recorded five kills and hit for a .625 average, while Katelyn Crofts had ten kills and a .409 average. Together, the two middle blockers also combined for seven blocks.
